Town of West Sweden- Monthly Meeting
February 21, 2017
Meeting was called to order by Simon Nelson at 6:30 pm. Members present Scott Wilder and Glenn
Meier, supervisors; Kevin Taylor, patrolman, and Phyllis Wilder, clerk, Brenda
Tesch, treasurer. Guest: Brad Olson,
County Supervisor. Maria Taylor and Lori
Lundquist, election workers.
The minutes to the January meeting were presented by the clerk. The board thanked the clerk for the report.
The financial statement for January
was presented by the treasurer. The board thanked her for the report.
Public input: Brad Olson,
County Supervisor reported:

$50 flat fee for
broadband has been approved;
·
Opened the Gandy
Dancer Trail to 4 wheels during snow season; opening more roads for ATV’s usage
this summer
·
The Clam Falls
Dam, Renewable Energies is reviewing contract on it, no one has expressed
interest to take over dam
Employee report: Kevin
reported inspector is supposed to be coming look at the Salt Sand Shed this
week. All equipment is running well. Working on the beaver issue on 180th
Street, if Kevin doesn’t remove beavers, may have a guy from Solon Springs come
to exterminate them, cost is approximately $350. Simon N made the motion, Glenn M 2nd
to go forward with beaver removal.
Motion carried. Glenn M mentioned
that Alpha Tire can come out for tire repairs.
Unfinished Business:
A. Correction on Audit: Deposit
numbers were added to the December report, the final audit was corrected as
well. Approved by the board.
New Business:
A. Salt Sand Shed: Brad reported
that there is no activity on salt sand shed in the northern region at this time
from the county. Discussion on replacing
current shed on same property. Glenn M
made the motion to hire a surveyor with bid before work is done on our property
on Benson Road, 2nd by Scott W, motioned carried.
Glenn will get information on salt/sand sheds, designs, different models
to bring to the next meeting.
Scott also brought up the need
to have names to give people that need driveways sanded.
B.
Discussion on 330th Avenue:
Simon has talked with residents about closing a third of a mile the east
end of 330th Avenue. Options for repair, Ron Peterson,
Monarch Paving said that we could lay down fiber matting on the road, sand lift
and gravel road. Possible drill road to
test what is underneath it. Look at options for road as flooding is an issue
due to the low laying area. The board advised Kevin to put up road closed
signs.
C.
Review Budget: Clerk reported the first
payment on road work construction loan and dump truck loan was made this month.
Correspondence: Weight
restriction went into effect Feb 20, 2017 at noon on Polk County roads.
Glenn reported Northland Ambulance will be purchasing a new unit for
approximately $ 160,000 to $180,000. Currently get 800 calls per year. Ambulance
life is 10 to 15 years.
Supervisors reviewed bills and approved payment of checks # 16748-16771
and the ACH payments totaling $417,797.49.
Tax settlements to the County,
State, School District and WITC totaled $335,507.39 and loan payments of $48,483.45.
Next meeting will be March 21, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Simon Nelson will be not be present.
