Town of West Sweden- Monthly Meeting

May 22, 2012

Meeting was called to order at 7:03pm. Present at the meeting Simon Nelson, chairman; Scott Wilder and Glenn Meier, supervisors; Phyllis Wilder, Treasurer and Kevin Taylor, patrolman, and Andrea Lundquist, Clerk. Residents and onlookers included William Johnson, Jim Pearson, representing Fahrner Paving.

The minutes of the last meeting were presented by the clerk. No adjustments were recommended. The town board thanked the clerk for the report.

The treasurer presented the monthly report. The town board thanked the treasurer for the report.

Public Input: A. William Johnson requested potholes to be filled in as there is going to be an event in the area around the Amundson’s. Kevin will fill them in timely.

Old Business: A. Per information supplied by Walter Schommer, the request for ATV routes is typically done through an ATV club that is requesting access. As there is only a few residents, and not a club, then town has suspended talks on ATV route on roads through West Sweden until approached by an ATV club.

B. The Long arm mower purchase was postponed indefinitely.

Employee Report: A. Kevin met with Tom Schommer to give approval to cut some of the trees on 150^th Street/360^th Avenue, and lowering the hill in that area. Property owners were in agreement with removing marked trees and land. Kevin will take photos of the trees marked to be removed, and verify Schommer’s approval.

B. Patching over the spot on 150^th where the culvert was replaced is ready. Taylor paving will be up and we will talk with them about the job.

C. Polk County Hwy did the car count on Benson Avenue. The counter was there from Wednesday through Monday, and daily average was about 900 cars.

D. Jim Pearson from Fahrner Paving came with suggested roads and estimates for roads in West Sweden. 1. Old W (by Crosswalk Church), suggested single chip seal now at a cost of $23,500; double sealing (though not recommended) would add $15-20,000; 2. Clam Falls drive pavement repair at est. $26,746; 3. 340^th/150^th needs resurfacing, est. at $22,200. Total for all 3 = $71,866.11. The town board will discuss proposed repairs at the next meeting.

Correspondence: A. Ordinance suggesting extending terms of officer through the 3^rd Tuesday of 2013 is needed, as the state laws have changed the start date for the 2013-2014 term to the third Tuesday in April, 2013. Ordinance will be up for approval next meeting.

New Business: A. Hammond subdivision was up for approval by town checklist. The subdivision would create one lot with 14.42 acres containing the house and shed/shop. The town board approved and signed the checklist for the proposed lot.

All bills paid and approved.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 at 6:30 pm.

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Glenn, seconded by Simon. Motion carried. Time was 7:53pm.
